On the 6th of Novemebr I got a call from Christi Wiehahn telling me of the tragic news that Derik Du Toit had been killed in a car accident in Cape Town. It was terrible news, South Africa had lost another great skateboarder, brother and friend to all who met him. Having only met Derik in passing a few times or via email when we had done an article on him I never realy got the chance to get to know him all that well but, what i can say is that he had immense ability on a skateboard and was one of the guys who has kept the flames of skateboarding alive in South Africa over all these years whenever he stepped onto his board, his presence and impact will never be forgotten. - Brendan Body Session Skateboarding Magazine would like to send condolences to Derik’s friends and family in this tough time, Derik was everybody’s friend and he will be greatly missed. To many people you were a ‘skater’ but, also a very kind and goodhearted friend whom with his big warm smile could light up a room.
