DVS - Step into Summer
Just short of 1500 people packed into Cool Running’s in Fourways for the DVS ‘Step into Summer’ party with Fuzigish, SubMachine and Japan and I. DVS have just launched their new DVS girls
footwear range and this party was the perfect opportunity to showcase mthe new merch. They also got to spoil the girls who got free entrance ,hairclips, footwear give ways, cupcakes, brownies and sweets throughout the night, which added a much appreciated twist - giving back to the girls in the scene – respect! This resulted in a monstrous, sugarcharged, sardine-packed, swirling pit of sweat, hair and party pants, all skankin’ to the beats through the night. DJ’s Melissa and the Family and H-Bomb [Soul Candi] were there to keep the momentum
going between changeovers. It was
insane – if you wanted to get to the
bar or toilet you had to go through
the pit which was practically bursting
out the door tossing people outside
with every revolution. Adding to
the CHAOS there were beach balls
being tossed over the crowd and
ricocheting in every direction taking
out a few unguarded drinks at the
bar. Melissa Williams, ex Blunt editor,
has returned from London and
has joined the RSS Dist. Team as Marketing Coordinator based in
Cape Town. Cape Town can expect
to be bombarded with events and
activities from all the RSS brands
next year. DVS and Fuzigish have tied the knot
and DVS will be sponsoring them on
their nationwide tour over the holiday
season.

The Hux
Gav Hux recently held a best trick
jam presented by Killer, Fallen and
KFD down the new stairs and rail at
the {R}evolution Park in DBN. Around
10 local heads rocked up which is
far less than we get when they run
games of s.k.a.t.e. Understandably
not everyone who skates has fun
throwing their bodies repeatedly
down sets of stairs, it can be tiring
indeed. Rippers on the day were
dudes like Robert Bambo, Miles,
Gary, Wally, Braxton, Dlamini and
local rat fast turning into a formidable
skate force, Khule Nia, the dude
unleashed a casual nollie heel krooks
down the rail. Dlamini had 3 sweet
fl ips over the rail and a switch 180
5-0 down. Braxton was skating right
on point all morning and he stepped
up to shut things down within the fi rst
few tricks of the jam with a delicious
back nose blizzle cooked up with
loads of steezening. Thanks to all
the skaters who came through on
the day.
Gav Hux is also moving to the Cape,
joining the never ending list of skaters
relocating there. He says he has some
solid plans to stir the skate scene up
with his creative take on things. He
wants to buy a piece of land an hour
from Cape Town and build a ramp or
bowl outta concrete as well as a few
other things he has up his sleeve.
He’s moving January 1st 2010. Gav
had this to say “Durban has been fun
and I got some rad skate memories
but I’m stoked to get out the city and
do something new. Cape Town has
so many rad spots I wanna explore.”
Skateworld The Vale
Skateworld in Edenvale has been
undergoing an upgrade over the
past few months with much thanks
going to Aldin. The park will soon
boast a new shop and cafe with
skate Sessions costing R 10.00 for
half day or R 15.00 This park has a
rad vibe to it along with a no helmet
law. The setup consisting mainly of
wedges, grind boxes and rails as well
as a new pyramid and selection of
new quarters. So make the effort this
DEC and go skate a skaters park.

Witt and George van Blerk. The store

bay and is part of GSM trading

Billabong, VZ and Nixon to name a

had this to say regarding the board

about non-polluting commuting,
which is why we encourage you to
get out there and “PUSH, DON’T
POLLUTE”. Support the green
lifestyle we promote and reduce our
carbon footprint. “Bomb Hills Not

Slip skateboards
Slip started just over a year ago and
is located in Midrand, so most of
their activities are currently focused
around Midrand, Centurion, and
Joburg. There mission, “to promote
skateboarding and to see more
skaters in SA reach international pro
levels more than anything else.” They
currently have no team riders but are
looking around the country and we
can expect a team in a short time
they say.
“We’ve overcome the initial
reservations everybody had about
a new start-up company regarding
quality and reliability of our products,
and there’s a tremendous sense of
sharing in something that is actually
making a difference. A lot of the guys
are extremely stoked by just being
a mere part of Slip, no matter what
part it is. Its really amazing to see
everybody willingly investing time,
skills and what ever they can to make
it a success - because they all believe
in what we’re doing”. For more info

RVCA
News from RVCA is that Lucas Polydorou has been filming as much
as possible, which is becoming more
difficult as the police and security
think that they now have the power
to arrest you for skateboarding in
CT. He’s also been baking vegan
cupcakes, started working at Baseline
because he’s been super broke.
Donations would be welcomed and
can be sent to The Studio, Linda

Treverton Skate Awareness
A team of Treverton College pupils
recently skated from Pietermaritzburg to Durban (along the
comrades marathon route) with an
ambulance and police car escort in
an effort to raise awareness for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.
Months of planning went into
the event organized by the boys and
supported by the school. The trip
had to be postponed earlier this
year when the youngest member of
the group became seriously ill with
Guillian Barre Syndrome but defied
all the odds by not only recovering
but managing to complete the skating
marathon! Good on ya lads!
IRON FIST (USA) RUMBLE IN RAMONA 09
9am (ish). The Iron Fist crew arrives at my house (late as usual), they hop
in the van & I jump on my bike & we head out. The drive from my house to
Ramona is about 30-40 minutes of gorgeous hills and an awesome windy
road. I’m on the bike, breeze in the knees, hell yes, life is good.
Aghhh fuck! 10 minutes into the ride and my clutch cable breaks, oh well. We
pull over, load the bike into the back of the van & off we go again.
We arrive at the ramp and people are already skating, today is going to rock!
Got a good spot next to Vans & the Hell’s Angels, the Iron Fist easy-up goes
up, put out the tables & chairs, laid out stickers and free Nav’s t-shirts…BAM
we’re ready! I hop in the van & head to the store to pick up the necessary
supplies. About $280 later I leave with 8 bags of ice, four bottles of whiskey
& about 200 beers. Oh yes today is a good day! As the day progressed, it
got packed. Tons of cool hot rods & choppers great live music, kick ass
skateboarding, free hamburgers and hotdogs at the Vans booth, shit we even
got free stuff from Skullcandy. The skate session was crazy, Lincon Ueda did
the highest airs I have ever seen, Mike Frazier killed it with technical brilliance, Nav’s slayed it. Getting to see Hosoi, Max Schaaf & Lance Mountain skate was awesome. So basically to cut a long story short, we gave out a shit
load of stickers, hats, tees, beers, we drank a lot of whiskey, watched some
kick ass skating while listening to some awesome live music. In conclusion
we the Iron Fist dirtbags had a day of hanging out with hotrodders, greasers,
bikers, musicians & skate ledgends! Life is good.
